The 6 must have a core set of principles that drive them, upon which they agree to be guided for activities, undertakings and behavior. Otherwise you have 6 great people with no direction or purpose. When you mentioned the first 5 points, my response was, to do what?

Wow, very powerful concept. Thanks Dave. The biggest challenge I see is getting your 6, to educate their 6, about the Power of 6. It would be interesting to see future posts here on this topic.

The 6th criteria I would suggest, is each of your power of 6 *must* be PASSIONATE about what they do, in other words, they should LOVE what they do. The extreme test would be, even if they were not getting paid a dime to do it, would they still be doing what they are doing anyway? When you love what you do, and surround yourself with people whom similarly love what they do -- there's a mutual respect, joy, and "field of creativity" that I've experienced that is more than the sum of the parts. It's magic. Passion/love naturally elevates people whom are competent at something, to being superb -- it's all they can think about -- plus they're typically more fun to be around. ;-)

Not to sound too 1960s (as I wasn't even born yet) but it seems to be all about joy, peace and love.

I might add that #6 would be an individual that, yes, bright equity and more to the group. But I would say that diversity would be of great value. So my number six in this situation would be a person that brings something unique that the rest of the 5 do not offer. That there is some skill set or some other asset that the group does not have.

Thanks for allowing me to share Dave

6.) Sixth and final point: Bring to the group the latest, state of the art knowledge that the entire team may learn and benefit from. No matter how well you master a field, there will always be someone more seasoned and experienced. Be humble enough to recognize this and gracious enough to search out and receive the knowledge of the "Top Dogs" in the field.

If, by chance, you find yourself "voted out" of a Power of 6, start your own! Failure is only final id you stop.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for a great report. I let the negative people out of my life a long time ago. You made me realize that I associate only with givers.

Remember there's a basic existential law that says givers must be takers, too. If there isn't a balance between intake and output, people will quickly burn out and become useless. You can surround yourself with people who are taking from other sources and only align themselves with your "sixtet" for the purpose of mutual giving, but they all must be drawing spiritual, emotional, and financial sustenance from SOMEWHERE or they will eventually fizzle and become useless to you, to the world, and to themselves.

The Power Of 6™ - Synergy, balance, team work, complement, and compliment - great goals to strive towards in any organization. Don't forget the basketball connection and the Power of the "6th Man!"

Also, have you heard of ? ?? Chinese call this "gai shan". More well known is "kaizen," the Japanese version. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaizen
You book's concepts will expand into a global audience by incorporating the Far Eastern philosophies.
